March 18, 2018 - Anaheim Ducks vs New Jersey Devils at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
During any other game of the season I act as the photo editor for the Anaheim Ducks, but on this night I got to fill in as the team photographer. I even received photo credit on Getty!
There are a lot of secondary responsibilities given to the team photographer aside from shooting the moments of pinnacle game action. This includes getting photos of certain players skating towards the camera with their head up, stick on the ice, and without any visual intrusions (these are submitted as 'second edits'), finding the game's "special fans" and grabbing a shot of them while they're not looking at their phones, and otherwise being at the beck and call of the social media team. Add the fact that I had to shoot on strobes (remote lights in the rafters) and could therefore only take one shot every 2-3 seconds, I was more nervous for a hockey game than I had been in a while.
But it was fun! I got some nice images, and I even had my ex-roommate, Josh Barber, working as my editor for the game. :)
